DISCOVERING THE POTENTIAL OF NEXT GENERATION ETHANOL
$3 Million Partnership Combines Biorefining Process with Development
Partners: G2 BioChem and Lakehead University
Project Location: Chatham and Thunder Bay, ON
Benefits: Combining cutting-edge biorefining processes with the development of value-added product uses to bring new jobs and investment to Northern Ontario.
FUNDING INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS
The main focus of this project is the design and development of biorefinery processes at its Centre of Excellence in Chatham. Using Poplar they will develop ways to recover hemicellulose, lignin and bark extracts from forest biomass. In turn, Lakehead will develop value-added chemicals from the process to be used in products such as adhesives, biochemical and biopharmaceuticals.
